Sleep Apnea

We focus on improving the upper airway space via palatal expansion which promotes better breathing thus enabling better sleep. The expansion also allows for proper functioning to include improved speech and swallowing and decreases or eliminates teeth grinding. All of these greatly improve the overall health and well-being of our patients and of course, greatly improves aesthetics as it corrects the malocclusions such as crowding, spacing, protrusions, crossbites, and open bites.

We do this on all ages! You're never too young or too old to take advantage of palatal expansion!

MAXILLARY PALATAL EXPANDER (MSE) FOR ADULTS

Palatal expanders are highly effective orthodontic appliances that widen the upper jaw to match the lower jaw size - to provide optimal occlusion and a healthy alignment for permanent teeth. In cases where the permanent teeth have already emerged and settled into the adult years, traditional palatal expander treatment could cause the teeth to flare outward or protrude. The MSE appliance provides non-surgical palatal expansion for adults. With MSE treatment, we can prevent this flare and avoid invasive surgery (surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion) that may otherwise be required to widen the jaws.

WHY DO I NEED A PALATAL EXPANDER?

One of the most common issues that adults seek palatal expansion for is Sleep Apnea. This condition is characterized by interruptions in breathing during sleep and is often caused by a narrow airway. By widening the upper jaw with a palatal expander, the airway can be opened up, reducing the severity of sleep apnea.

Another issue that can be addressed with a palatal expansion in adults is a crossbite. This occurs when the upper teeth sit inside the lower teeth when the jaw is closed, which can cause discomfort and difficulty chewing. Palate expansion can help to correct a crossbite by widening the upper jaw and allowing the upper teeth to sit outside the lower teeth.

Palatal expansion can also be an effective treatment for adults with crowded or crooked teeth. While traditional braces may be an option, palate expansion can help to create more space in the mouth, making it easier to align teeth without the need for extractions or more invasive treatments
